A surface well is dug by hand to a shallow depth (up to 30 metres), fitted with a hand pump, and serves a small community. A deep artesian well is drilled beside a mosque or a school, reaches up to 80 metres, and becomes a water source for hundreds of people.
By the permission of Allah, a well keeps giving water for decades with regular maintenance. We hand the well over to the villagers and train them in basic upkeep, and we continue to follow up on the project regularly.
Tiling finishes the ground around the well, which keeps the mud away, makes cleaning easier and protects the water source from contamination. The canopy shelters the pump and the people using it from sun and rain, and extends the life of the equipment. Each add-on costs 30% of the well's price.
Yes. Our field team carries out inspection visits every 6 months and performs any maintenance needed to extend the life of the well.
